CoverUps.com has received reports in cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle, St. Louis, Miami, and Houston, where ordinary citizens have stumbled upon hidden cameras on their doorsteps. Apparently, citywide efforts have been made to install these hidden cameras, with help from the manufacturers.

"It's the perfect spot, you get a clear view of the street, and the majority of home owners, and criminals, don't even realize it's there. It's the perfect crime fighting renovation," says Detective John Roberts of Los Angeles. But many don't see it that way. Many believe that it is not just about security, and privacy is being invaded.

The cameras above are conventionally used to surveil an area, such as a parking lot or business. But they commonly do not protect residential areas. Yet.

Lawsuits have sprung up across the country aimed the the makers of the door knockers. Reports of complaints that the buyers were unaware of the transmitting device inside. "It doesn't matter that it shows only the outside of my house. What I do on my lawn is my own business! I don't want local police watching me while I wash my car," complained one Tom Edwards of Boston, MA.

This all-too-common sign of the times is coming to a utility pole or public building near you.

"This would destroy the entire operation. No one would buy them, and they would soon become useless," says Roberts.

Some also claim that the Police department is selling information gathered from the videos. Data and the types of products brought home by the consumers. Reports of stat sheets of what products the residents walk by with, and what cars are driven are circulating the newspapers.

Edwards told CoverUps.com, "I can't fathom how the police have the right to do this without our knowledge. They must be stopped. Big Brother is really watching now.
