ZANESVILLE, OH - Expanding upon the success of the hit series CSI, which chronicles the trials and tribulations of a group of Las Vegas forensic scientists, a number of spinoffs soon followed, "CSI: Miami and CSI: New York." CoverUps.com has learned that CSI: Zanesville, OH was to follow in this pattern but was canned due to poor preliminary test marketing. Plus, almost everybody surveyed had little clue where Zanesville, OH was or why it would constitute an interesting expansion of the franchise.

Creator of the series, Anthony Zuiker states, "I guess we tried to get away cheaply with the latest expansion and paid the price, it was originally supposed to be Chicago, but we were getting killed with location and union fees. So, someone here had the bright idea that Zanesville, OH would be a great representative town of the Midwest. Turns out he was wrong, dead wrong. It got him fired."

"Zanesville, OH suffers from being really, really boring," he said. "Not much happens in the town of just over 25,000 people. What attracted us to Zanesville, Ohio is that it was the birthplace of Zane Grey (famous western novelist) and has this cool "Y" bridge spanning the town's confluence of the Licking and Muskingum rivers", he said.

"We thought between the rivers and the Zane Grey fact, we'd have something to build on," Zuiker said. "But, we were wrong. Nothing ever really happens in Zanesville,OH. Mostly the crime centers around parking tickets and DUI related stuff...nothing out of the ordinary."

Zuiker said that Johnston, PA was slated for the next expansion of the CSI series. He cites the Johnston Flood Museum as a notable local feature that might offer a good platform for flood related crime and drama. And, at a cheap price, too.

"Hey, money is always a concern," Zuiker said. "I don't want to sacrifice drama at the expense of location, but there is a fine line."

Yes, this was crossed at Zanesville, OH.
