Saudi Mother Tries to Block 8-year-old daughter's Arranged Marriage to 50-year-old man

Before we endorse a culture and permit its unchecked spread in this country, doesn't it make sense to look closely at it?

It's only fair to warn readers up front that since any good multi-culturalist will tell you all cultures are equally good, this story could very well be irrelevant. Why bother with laying out the facts when you have something better, like a good theory?

Still, onward we go, traipsing through and trespassing on the sacred ground of multi-culti dogma. Hi-ho, hi-ho.

From Jihadwatch comes the story of a Saudi mother going into a Saudi court to try and block her 8-year-old daughter's marriage to a man in his 50s.

... [the] middle-aged man ... made a marriage contract with the girl's father in the province of al-Qasim, in the centre of the country. The father's consent is needed to validate the marriage contract between the man, who is in his fifties and the child. He reportedly agreed to the union in exchange for an undisclosed sum of money. According to the Saudi newspaper, Okaz, the news emerged after the mother of the child reported her husband and took him to court to prevent the marriage from going ahead.

Apparently there are many such cases making their way through the Saudi courts.

Referring to another case where a man in his seventies was charged for marrying a ten-year-old girl in the area of Asir, south of Mecca, the woman also sought the help of local human rights groups

The mother of the girl said her husband has two other wives, and considering the age of the child, asked for the contract to be withdrawn to allow her to have a normal childhood.

Our Take

"It's for the children" is one of those rallying cries long favored by the left to justify the ongoing encroachment of government, as it seeks to improve our bigoted and unsophisticated lives.

We know you liberals have made heavy emotional investments in the idea of cultural tolerance, especially towards practicing muslims. But are you ready to extend that tolerance to include grown men marrying girls whose ages can still be tallied in the single digits? What practical difference is there between a man consummating such a marriage, and the act of pedophilia?
