Politics House GOP oil Protest catches fireAugust 2008 The Republicans finally wake up on energy and put democrats on the defensive By Andrew Peterson It's enough to make you pinch yourself just to make sure you're not dreaming. Is this really the Republican Party? Passionate? Focused? Roused to action? Acting from conviction on gas prices and taking the fight to the Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats? Why yes, it is! Here's some of the blow-by-blow commentary, courtesy of Allahpundit at HotAir.com House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence. It's with a sense of fierce delight that we think about what must be going through the heads of the Democrat leadership in the House and Senate. At long last, Republicans are acting like they really want to win this fight. ..."The American people are suffering,” [John] Boehner and [Roy] Blunt said in a memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies. Our Take The most important thing Republicans can do now is not to let up on the Democrats. Keep the pressure on. Don't cave, don't compromise, don't accommodate. The Dems know they're wrong on drilling. Many of them want drilling as much as we do, but are prevented from saying so publicly lest they incur the wrath of Ms. Pelosi. We, thankfully, have no such limitations. We must play our hand to maximum advantage and effect. Link to article.
