Congressman Murtha: The surge is working!

Congressional Democrats are finally admitting the surge is working against the so-called ‘insurgents’. It may also be working against Congressional Democrats themselves.

Rush Limbaugh recently opined on comments by Congressman John Murtha who, having returned from a recent visit to Iraq, was overheard to admit that the surge is working. Rush takes him and the Democrat Congress to task on it:

• Murtha held a video conference with reporters to talk about his trip to Iraq, from which he had just returned.
• Murtha said, “I think – I think the surge is – is working.
• Limbaugh doesn’t care if the fiercely anti-war Pennsylvania Democrat is now doing a CYA because the truth has become so obvious. “The fact of the matter is this hurts Democrats,” said Limbaugh. “Nancy Pelosi – I don't know this – my guess is she is furious, my guess is that Harry Reid's furious, because Murtha was the spear taker, Murtha was out there catching the spears everybody was throwing because he was leading the charges."
• Limbaugh: “Murtha’s in a safe [congressional] district and he was leading the charge that the surge isn't working and our troops are criminals, and they're rapists, and they're murderers, and they're muggers, and this sort of thing. Now he says the surge is working. This could not be worse for the Democrats."
• “James Clyburn is the House whip,” Limbaugh continued. “And he's chairman I think of the Congressional Black Caucus. He said some months ago, ‘As a party we've got real problems if this thing turns around.’"
• And they (Democrats) do have real problems with this.
• Even now Harry Reid is offering legislation to try to curb future Iraq funding unless it's tied to troop withdrawals. He's just been undercut by Murtha, as has Pelosi.

Our Take

Once again, kudos to Rush for staying on top of the issue and calling Murtha and all the other Dems to task for their intransigence on the surge. Sometimes you have to go there with your own eyes to realize that truth does indeed come out of that place and it is not always bad news. Murtha’s reversal, however, is bad news for the Dems. But they have only themselves to blame for the political mess they’re in.
