Global Warming Climate Models:
Garbage In, Garbage Out
August 2008
An elementary principal of science that too many scientists and lawmakers seem to have forgotten.

Whether it's called "global warming" or "climate change", the thing to remember about this hysteria as it sweeps the country is that it's truly dangerous in this sense: terrible new laws can come out of it – laws that take big chunks of your money and your freedom away from you and give them to the government. And good luck taking them back once you've given them away.
Submitted for your skeptical attention: this dire, gloom-and-doom quote from a scientist, Oliver Tickell, whose thoughts are so off-the-charts extreme it's a wonder anyone take what he says seriously:
...the idea that we could adapt to a 4C rise (in temperature) is absurd and dangerous. Global warming on this scale would be a catastrophe that would mean, in the immortal words that Chief Seattle probably never spoke, "the end of living and the beginning of survival" for humankind. Or perhaps the beginning of our extinction.
Never forget, dear readers, that the 4C increase in planetary temperatures spoken of by Dr. Tickell comes from a global climate model – a computer simulation. Who builds the climate model? Who writes the code that goes into the simulation? The same climate researchers who are getting all these fat grants from the IPCC and the EPA!
The collapse of the polar ice caps would become inevitable, bringing long-term sea level rises of 70-80 metres. All the world's coastal plains would be lost, complete with ports, cities, transport and industrial infrastructure, and much of the world's most productive farmland. The world's geography would be transformed much as it was at the end of the last ice age, when sea levels rose by about 120 metres to create the Channel, the North Sea and Cardigan Bay out of dry land. Weather would become extreme and unpredictable, with more frequent and severe droughts, floods and hurricanes. The Earth's carrying capacity would be hugely reduced. Billions would undoubtedly die.
Our Take
In the interest of truth and sanity, here’s a translation of the above quote:
“The collapse of the climate alarmists’ credibility would become inevitable, bringing long-term skepticism rises of 90%-100%. All the grant money would be lost, complete with television appearances, book contracts, conferences, and proximity to government power – and much of our fame and renown ...”
You get the idea.
One more thing. Notice how Dr. Tickell undermines himself even in his own disaster scenario. Listen to him talk about the earth’s geographical transformation at the end of the last ice age. All the things he lists – the creation of the English Channel and the North Sea due to melting ice – all of these things happened before modern industrialization, before oil and coal, before CFCs and SUVs.
We would like to take this moment to thank Dr. Tickell for making our point. Climate variation is natural. It’s normal. Glaciers grow and recede. Deserts expand and contract. Precipitation patterns change. Sea levels rise and drop. All without regard to the efforts of men and machines. So it has always been. So it will always be.
