From the World Divided blog comes word of legislation introduced in Iran's parliament that would impose the death penalty for so-called "cyber-crimes".
What constitutes "cyber-crime" in Iran?
Readers should not be surprised to learn that the mullahs who run things there, like totalitarians everywhere, have some very restrictive ideas about online criminal activities.
According to World Divided:
Under the draft bill, those found guilty of promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy on the internet may face the death penalty. The bill aims to “toughen punishment for harming mental security in society,” Iran’s ISNA news agency said.
Setting up weblogs and sites which promote any of the crimes listed in the bill are punishable by death.
We suppose this new development in tyranny probably won't stop broad-minded liberal journalism schools from inviting the likes of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to come to this country and bestow their wisdom on the inquiring young minds of tomorrow's journalists.
As for conservative groups like The Minutemen, or someone like Ward Connerly – they need not apply.
