How CAIR explains Islamophobia

According to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), when 9-11 happened, the people already predisposed to viewing Islam with suspicion jumped on the Islamophobe bandwagon, and through a multitude of primarily right-wing outlets have successfully created a climate of extreme prejudice, suspicion and fear against all Muslims. Pro-Israeli commentators such as Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, Judith Miller, and Bernard Lewis among many others have stoked the flames of anti-Islamic sentiment.

Now, dear reader, before you condemn the bigotry of the American public against the pure-as-the-wind-driven-snow Religion o’ Peace, you owe it to yourself to read these excerpts from the blog cheatseekingmissiles.blogspot.com:

• Not only are anti-Islamic hate crimes way down, they're but a tiny fraction of overall religious hate crimes. Jews are the target in the overwhelming majority of hate crimes – something CAIR and other Muslim groups don't seem all that concerned about.
• In 2006, a whopping 66% of religiously motivated attacks were aimed at Jews, while just 11% targeted Muslims in this country – even though the Jewish and Muslim populations are similar in size. Catholics and Protestants, who together account for 9% of religious hate-crime targets, are subject to almost as much abuse as Muslims.
• CAIR can trumpet all they want about anti-Islamic hate, but the fact of the matter is that in all of last year, the FBI identified just 156 anti-Muslim hate crimes, down 68 percent from 2001.
• Such a small number doesn’t serve CAIR's policy wonks very well. For said wonks to succeed in fighting the Patriot Act, the TSA and the GWOT, they need, for agitprop purposes, an intolerant America. Alas, they're stuck with an America more tolerant by far than the countries from which they, or their forefathers, hailed. Boo hoo hoo.
• That leaves CAIR between a Ka'ba and a hard place. To raise funds and be an Islamic NAACP, they must cry wolf, and cry it often. But what they will never do is accept the notion (now backed up by FBI statistics) of a decent, tolerant America. Admit this, and CAIR would have to turn its attentions and energies to reforming Islam, not trying to Islamify America. Don’t hold your breath, folks.

Sometimes you have to call them like you see them – and the FBI did just that. The Bureau deserves credit, as does the blog cheatseekingmissile. As do the American people, who know that tolerance and goodness reign supreme in America.
