2008 Election CoverUps Reasons To Vote Against ObamaJune 2008
By Andrew Peterson From the self-described political provocateur "Cowboy Confessional" comes a hard-hitting but generally well-reasoned post called "Reasons to Vote Against Obama". Without further adieu, let's plunge right in: Cowboy Confessional: We choose to give Obama the benefit of the doubt and call him a race hustler, ala Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton, which is bad enough – and not a racist. After he made a big splash at the 2004 Democratic Convention as a supposedly unifying and post-racial candidate, Obama has shown himself all too willing to play the race card. This is all the more true with his supporters, who seem to be on hair-trigger alert to play the race card whenever Obama is challenged on anything. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Is A Liar CC's language is blunt, but there's no getting around it: Obama is prone to lying... call him truth-challenged. On everything from public financing of elections to fictitious banking committee memberships to the regularity of his attendance at Trinity United Church, he's proven himself to be just as flexible with the truth as any other pol. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Associates with Known Terrorists Obama's associations with homegrown terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn are indictments of his judgment and moral clarity. Obama has tried to beg off, claiming he shouldn't be judged today based on actions that Ayers and Dohrn took when he, Obama, was eight years old. That strikes us as immaterial. When Obama was ushered into Ayer's home for the first time at a political fundraiser, he crossed a line, in effect giving a kind of passive endorsement for what Ayers did. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Breaks Under Pressure Whether in debate with Hillary Clinton, or apologizing to offended Muslim women when he didn't have to, or stumbling badly through press conferences when asked even moderately tough questions, Barack Obama has indeed shown himself to be glass-jawed and easily flustered – hardly confidence-inspiring given the enormous difficulty of the Presidency. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Is at Best a Socialist, and Leans Communist There's not a shred of doubt that as President, Obama would take this country sharply left, away from our country's formative ideas, namely limited government, capitalism, and Judeo-Christian values. Obama subscribes to none of those, though he occasionally pays lip-service to them in passing during his speeches. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Keeps Company with Criminals Exhibit A: Tony Rezko, the Chicago slumlord who got him his mansion at below-market rates, and was recently tried and convicted of guilty of six counts of wire fraud, six counts of mail fraud, two counts of corrupt solicitation, and two counts of money laundering. Obama was famously quoted as saying, "That's not the Tony Rezko I know." Color us skeptical – just like we were when Obama said the same thing about Jeremiah Wright. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Doesn't Understand Basic Americanism Listen to just about every Barack Obama speech and you'll find it overflowing with victimology, left-wing fringe kookism (global warming and reparations for African-Americans) and out-of-control statism (universal healthcare). Cowboy Confessional: Obama Makes Very Stupid Personal Decisions We're inclined to cut Obama some slack here for his youthful indiscretions with drugs. As for his cigarette smoking, that particular vice remains (still) very widely practiced. We wonder if the liberal left would cut McCain the same slack if their life stories and vices were reversed. We think not. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Doesn't Know Who He Is We're inclined to cut him some slack here too. His search for himself is sad but hardly unique. What makes him objectionable in the context of this campaign are the views he holds. Cowboy Confessional: Obama Has No Experience There's no doubt that Barack Obama has less experience – by a wide margin – than any major-party Presidential contender in a long, long time. In another sense we're glad for this. It gives us a nice big objection to hammer him over the head with between now and election day.
